Desire for romance

and new experiences

brought what was wanted

The romance was lovely

while it lasted

New experiences came

and faded

The pleasures thinned

The memories remained

ROMANCE

 

Romance is the sauce,

Love is the substance

Together they make

two lives worth living

 

Lingering like a seed,

bursting into glory

when two bodies are joined

in carnal connection

          just for shredding

          You wanted passion,

          I wanted romance

          Why couldn’t we just

          have mixed the two

 

          Always wondering why

          our love had to die

          taking you for granted

Where are you muse?

Please come whisper

gold in my ear

What would great Shakespeare

have done without you?

I sit patiently poised

awaiting Erato,

goddess of poetry,

to plant sweet phrases

in my anxious mind

Help me sing songs

to my true love

I will write down

your inspiring words

engendering romance

ONE NIGHT

          She knew with a glance

          she had found romance

          she would seize her chance

          before the night was over

for a lovely phallic dance

          There could be no regret

          She would never forget

          her uninhibited pleasure

of a joy beyond measure

          a memory to treasure

          When her body grew old

          in bed alone and cold

she would long to dream

of that romantic flight

          lasting for just one night

Most of the self-published books on Kindle that I've bought have been duds, but not The Hero. Interestingly, it begins as a romance, then morphs into a mystery/thriller that I couldn't put down. Retired reporter Ken Crowe has woven together a great story and engaging characters, with just enough color to securely anchor it in time and place. This could easily be the basis for a Matt Damon film.

I thoroughly enjoyed this mystery. It took a while for the mystery to develop but I didn't mind. The book was good even when it was a romance. It was a truly entertaining story from the beginning to the very end.
